TWO TREES SHOW THE WAY

While sitting in outdoor worship, two large trees inspired me.

I thought of troubling times in our lives when we are forced to go on. We see no path to take us to a better place. Our only choice is to begin climbing. We get scratched, but we reach for the next branch because there is no other choice. We stretch and just barely reach the next branch. Then the next and the next, because we see no other way to go. Where is the solution? Finally, exhausted we find ourselves high up in the tree.

We finally see the answer to our problem. Sadly, the solution is down below on the ground, far, far away. How to get there? It’s too scary to think about climbing back down the way we came. Our scratches ooze blood, reminding us of how hard the way up was. Those branches were rough and so far apart. And we are out of breath, exhausted. Are we stuck up in the tree forever?

Then, we look across to the second tree and see that it would be a much easier way to reach the ground. To reach the solution. We cross to the other tree and begin our descent to safety. We start breathing and feel the healing begin.

Who or what has helped you find the way when you think there is no solution?
